Most women are racing to be the thinnest. They devote their lives, more than wor, kids, love, friendship, to dieting and exercise. We deny nature, we deny aging, we deny food, we deny energy, we use up our time, our brain power. How we look is bigger than any other part of our lives. Even if we are not trying, not taking part in the exhaustive efforts to ‘improve’ then we feel the judgement, we are treated worse for it, we are left behind, looked past, feel bad within ourselves, hide ourselves.
I have never met a woman successfully avoiding the system. I have met those with pretty privilege and therefor only thinks it does not affect her or her actions. How could a woman enter the mindset of a man, the mindset of looks being optional and not all defining.
It is true that for a woman to be beautiful is often to be seen, to be seen without ridicule, without mockery.
Woman cannot be separated from appearance
Her value is attached to her body and not her talents or intellect or any other part of her mind. Women are looks first objects, men are mind first subjects.
Hair
Make up
Diet
Exercize
Clothes
We create the self we want to put into the world. Not as a man might do it, through developing our intellects, our knowledge, reaching for goals and achievements based on things like intelligence or careers, but through a self, an alter ego, a persona, achieved via makeup tutorials, numbers on the scales, wearing the right thing. When we have done all that then we are ready to go out and work on the rest.
We are starting on a backfoot. We are exhausted by the constant work to look good, look right, and the constant scrutiny. Most of which we accept as just part of the day. Most of which we get mocked for doing of for caring about.
