I love Shakespeare. It’s like a world of fantasy the way that the language envelops the narrative.
The way I see it there is a cultural obsession with Ophelia. Or maybe I am obsessed with Ophelia and therefore I see it everywhere.
Ophelia is often referred to in literature and the arts in connection to suicide, love, and/or mental instability.
Some art dude gave a women neumonia making her lie in cold water to become Ophelia.
Maybe men just like to see pretty young things dying with love for them.
Maybe she isn’t really seen as a person but as a representation of their own death. An object to reflect their hope that death can be beautiful rather than scary.
Maybe women enjoy the idea of ophelia because we have been young and obsessed and that part of us does have to die in order for us to live.
It may be connected with the the continuing love of the sublime. We want things to be intensely beautiful and terrifying.

I don’t have any female models and I don’t want to give anyone hypothermia so here is my partner as Ophelia. He is my very own Cindy Sherman. One day he will have played the part of every female archetype.

He is my love and obsession.
