I think I reflect through connections and conversation. As I have stated previously I view my work as a conversation with other artists. I reflect on what they have said, how it applies to me and my work, and then endeavour to reply through my work. I have also stated that I enjoy seeing the connections between separate strands of thought. Everything I am interested in – philosophy, art, history, psychology, sociology, performance, literature, celebrity, feminism, etc – connect in one way or another. I think this is also a form of reflection
In this way. i think that reflection not only applies to how you make art or why you make art or how you choose to convey ideas, but also to ideas and thoughts themselves. I reflect on what interests me.
I think the process of writing for the blog has made this a lot clearer and easier to do.
As artists we have a constant internal dialogue of what is working, what is not working, and why when it comes to image making, but it is ideas that interest me more. I think that should also be reflected on and I hope not to get too sidetracked with picking apart individual images and neglecting to think about the bigger picture.
I have felt a great drive or push to get it all in place before starting.
The way I tend to write these posts seem so be that I have one thought and go on a stream of ideas, writing them out simultaneously.
Now it is the scary part of starting.
