After doing so much time heavy work I wanted to do something fun and quick. I was reminded of the general view of men and what makes a man and what is taboo to men and therefore a bit ‘gay’ the other day when I was talking to a friend about how I was going to go to an Abba night with my partner. Her partner was like ‘you won’t catch me doing that’ when I enquired he said he wont be mincing around to abba because it is ‘gay’. How every sad. To not even get to have abba or dancing. When women wont dance it usually a confidence issue, dancing makes you aware of your body and some women don’t want to be aware of what is seen as their biggest failure, they don’t want to remember how much they hate themselves. Maybe men are also alienated from their body and movement. Maybe they feel ashamed to feel themselves inhabiting this body, because to enjoy the male body as a man is gay, or female, and therefore shameful to them.

I filmed me and my partner dancing later that night to abba on just dance and then created monoprints while watching it back.

It was fun and it was quick and I am sorry for the way society has made men hide themselves so much.
