The reason my posts are always out of order is that I half write them, let them stack up and then finish them and publish them in order of what interests me and when I can be bothered, or if Cory says I must. Even now I write these as if for an audience when the audience is me. The only real reason to explain or be in order is to not confuse myself. I need not babble on or explain myself so much. I look nuts writing for an audience that does not exist.

Anyway. Since I spoke about tapestry crochet in the last post but haven’t actually shown my tapestry crochet attempts yet I guess I best do it now.

I saw a tik Tok on tapestry crochet and figured id give that shit a try.

I used a site called stitch fiddle to put images into and then turn them into pixel charts.

I found thick lines and bold and contrasting colours worked best for the images I put into the softwear.

In the end I got a bit self doubting about that many colour changes and decided on an image of Ana Mendieta’s as I had been thinking about her and female rage, due to many things, mostly because I was sick, again, and was angry, again. I am also a bit fascinated by her and her work and the variety and volume, and sad end to it, and the cruelty of men especially when they band together.

I also found this article fascinating and wanted to follow along in a way. https://www.tate.org.uk/research/tate-papers/11/the-body-is-present-even-if-in-disguise-tracing-the-trace-in-the-artwork-of-nancy-spero-and-ana-mendieta

I will be braver next time and use more colours. I never know where these things will go or what will come of them when I learn to do them and I think it is a really cool looking thing. I have also often thought of ways to incorporate my crochet into my practice as I have taught many women to crochet and it’s very relaxing but I have never drawn with it before. I am excited to see where it could go.
