The People’s History Museum.

It was my friends bday and I said we can go anywhere you want, do anything you want, and she chose The People’s History Museum and Salford art gallery because it has a victorian street. Fair play. I didn’t mind. I haven’t been to either for a fair few years. There was a great exhibition…

It was my friends bday and I said we can go anywhere you want, do anything you want, and she chose The People’s History Museum and Salford art gallery because it has a victorian street. Fair play. I didn’t mind. I haven’t been to either for a fair few years. There was a great exhibition on at PHM nearly a decade ago by a protest poster artist that was really impactful but I did think it was all going to be a bit school trip and been there done that. But off we went, Arthritis out in full force. I was quite surprised when I actually found things that interested me.

This is the guy who made the social and political posters. I really though he was great. Definitely passionate and believed in people. https://eyeondesign.aiga.org/the-unequivocally-humanist-work-of-paul-peter-piech-the-peoples-designer/

I guess I think it is sweet and brave that people banded together in order to protect each other or for the greater good. Its also kind of sad how little things have changed and how we are still fighting for the same things in the same place. Makes all that fighting and creative outpouring seem futile. But then what else is there to do? I liked the protest banners and union banners but loved the posters for the unions best with the mythology and symbolism and colour. I would love to make a union of women poster. I also found the gay rights and LGBTQ+ inclusion refreshing and appropriate and it didn’t feel token which was nice, just part of the people’s history. I think museums appeal to me because I love collections and like with like and topography. It make me feel very safe and orderly. My biggest take away were the saches because they reminded my of my girl guide and and brownies and rainbows sashes and badges. Also that female social aspect and sharing in achievements and female history they offered. Considering I am all for the girls I am very disconnected from women. Strangely the people history museum felt more of a women’s history museum to me with suffrage, societies, exclusionary societies, creativity, and colour.
