I am here – I exist – Making marks as a diaristic form of expression.

All the disparate threads of thoughts and ideas have been coming together recently as I have come to the realisation that they all relate to or can be see through the lense of keeping a diary. The act of making visual notes which filter and express the lived experience in a coded and personal language. I do believe this unites my practice and is the thing I have been looking for to hold together the research I have been doing. I want to look into and express/ explore this further throughout the course. Although I don’t fully know what it is yet or explain it fully it feels like the right direction to go in as it sparks so many questions and holds together so much of what it is I want in my practice. I is very much a watch this space sort of time but I am excited to see what comes of it.

[…] I also have an ongoing list of research subjects, books, and possibilities, which I plan to work through alongside making in order to further my understanding of various subjects relating to the diary which can be found here: https://chelseaswancsm.wordpress.com/2024/01/26/research-topic-dear-diary/ […]

[…] Play and experimentation are key factors in my practice. I like to explore, leaving myself open to going on tangents. When researching I like to follow the paths that feel most right to me at that time. I have learnt to be selective in order to avoid feeling I have wasted my time as I often feel there is too much that interests me, far more than I will ever get to truly look at or do. I try to avoid staying always in my comfort zone and I do try to look at alternate views to my own, but I also like to follow what brings me joy and would say that is the biggest criteria. I also explore in terms of methods of making and outputs and have plans to carry on doing so, such as making videos and animations (new mediums for me), as well as making masks, medals and shields (new subjects), all of which will also require further research, both in terms of making and ideas . I have also been exploring new avenues in what parts of myself, and my life, I put into my work. https://chelseaswancsm.wordpress.com/2024/01/26/research-topic-dear-diary/ […]
